Description

Working with Native Events to support the sustainability transition in the Creative and Cultural Sector in Ireland.

Native Events are Ireland’s leading sustainability consultancy in the creative and cultural sector, while also putting sustainability into practice through their event and festival production team. CM Space found close alignment and synergy with Native Events through the shared vision of creating a regenerative future in Ireland through harnessing the power of culture and creativity. The following projects showcase our collaboration for industry wide change:

Creation of the Sustainability Toolkit with Creative & Cultural Industries Skillnet
The Sustainability Toolkit acts as a one-stop-shop for Ireland’s Creative and Cultural Industry practitioners to find sustainability resources, tools and case studies relevant to their artform and context. Our role in this project included:
  • Relaunching the Sustainability Toolkit in 2025
  • Redesigning the flow and structure of the website
  • Creating new copywriting and a glossary of terms
  • Communications campaign to promote the use of the Toolkit by creatives and arts organisations in Ireland
REALISE Sustainability Summit for the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs)

Native Events organised the first ever REALISE Sustainability Summit in April 2025 to bring together artists and performers, writers and musicians, designers and curators, changemakers and facilitators, researchers and educators, to co-ordinate creative climate action across Ireland. Our role in this project was to:

  • Workshop design and facilitation using co-creative methods
  • Running a closed morning session titled: Mapping Creative Landscapes, to bring leaders in sustainability together to map and celebrate the creative climate action work already happening
  • Find and document collaborative opportunities and patterns in the system related to place and landscape
  • Run the Communications workshop which was an emergent process using the Triopticon method to bring together diverse ideas on the role of communications in taking action in the polycrisis.
Northern Ireland Music Industry Sustainability Toolkit with Belfast City Council

A first of it’s kind, the Northern Ireland Music Industry Sustainability Toolkit, is a deep dive into the potential of the music industry to lead the sustainability transition and create systemic change in Northern Ireland. It is divided into three playbooks, each with practical actions, resources, ideas and tools for: Artists and Musicians; Events and Festivals; and Venues to create sustainable change. CM Space was responsible for:

  • Stakeholder engagement with music industry actors to discover what sustainability practices and initiatives are currently being implemented well and which areas are most challenging.
  • Co-design of the NI Music Industry Sustainability Toolkit with steering group alongside input from industry-wide survey and one-on-one interviews

Using our participatory engagement and creative facilitation methods in each of these projects meant that the end result reflected the current state of sustainability in the CCI’s, while also co-creating a shared vision for where the industry is going and practical steps for how to get there.
